thanks for efforts nicky,
I’ll design the logo and brief sketches of possible mockups
that we can share our thoughts.
anybody who wants to do logo or mockups, feel free to post ideas or design sketches, : )
I can probably take on the Content and maybe some of the programming.
Hi everyone, sorry about coming to this late, but I have been away on holidays for the last few weeks.
You have the specs above for the Postcards, the posters will be similar, but:
size – no larger than 12 x 18″ plus 1/8 bleed.
images 300 ppi AT SIZE.
one side only (of course).
another thing to keep in mind before you start is BCIT logo usage guidelines.

Also, I would like to help in any way I can – let me know when the next print committee meeting is, as I would like to attend.
This is a JPG version of what I’ve come up with. I have a new tagline for it:

If it doesn’t load you can take a look at our next meeting.
Hi, I’m Isabel from Design Essentials…. I’ll volunteer on assisting with the site design and animation.
I’m aware about the grad show name which is pixel8 – anything but squares…. Though I’m not quite sure what it means.. can someone please enlighten me about the concept?
Hi Isabel,
We decided on Pixel8 from the last majority vote. We wanted to use something that is commonly used in all three areas Design Essentials, Animation and Web Development, and pixels is something that we all work with or manipulate at some point in our work. The 8 was added for 2008 our graduation year.
the tag line “Anything but square” is a play on words. Pixels being squares obviously but also “square” as the slang term for boring , as in “He’s such a square”. this term is a bit of an older term popular around the 60-70s but is still a commonly known reference today.
Hence “Anything but square” = anything but boring
This tag line gives the impression that we are young, new and emerging grads, that we wont have none of the same old stuff at our show.
Hopefully this explains it well=)
I see… I think i’m somewhat getting it. So mainly, the concept plays on the fact that “pixels are not necessarily squares”.
I did a bit of reading about it, and found out that pixels do exist in many forms, depending on various devices and displays. (interestingly the german word for pixel is Bildpunkt)
Though to tell you the truth I’m still lost onto its implication with our tag line “anything but square” – there are many forms of pixels, then.. so what? How are we going to relate it to the 3 programs…
If we focus on the wide misconception people have that “pixels are squares” I think we can make the tag line sound more provocative than “anything but squares”
I know it sounds silly but I still can’t shake the feeling that pixelate carries a somewhat negative connotation… like when graphic images look pixelated.. Shouldn’t we actually be against that? (lol)
Hey, but then, it’s also possible that we can use it to stir some curiosity with the name..
I’m just thinking of how we can push the concept further… imho, it still needs “something” in order to become really effective. I must admit it’s still hard for me to visualize the whole concept…
Hmm, what do you guys think? Honestly..
Personally, I do know your concern, and I do know that pixelated stuff are bad (pixelated animation stuff is bad, pixelated video and photos are bad); however, i don’t think that way.
I think we’re connected through pixels, because we all work with pixels, and the final products are different. Adding the 8, also acts like a link, a connection, and we want to keep the site going, keep our relationships with each other going.
I do not think that an employer would refuse to hire you when your grad event is called “pixel8″. I have spoken to some people in the field, and they all think it’s creative and interesting to have the name.
As the name and tag line is decided, we should quickly start to produce the website, since it should be up before the print invitation is sent out. =D
